The "thinking game" and the "feeling game"

So far it works fine with having 2 accounts, one for short games in between and one for long serious games. But often i found my self playing fast (and sometimes stupid) moves even when i still have long thinking time.
This  has to do something with my personality and it makes a good example on how you can learn about your self - and maybe work on some bad habbits- through playing Go!

Sometimes it feels to me like that there are 2 different games ... the one where you can follow your intuition, where you "feel" your next move and ... the one where you really think through variations and possible answers of your opponent. But there aren`t 2 games!
There are, even in games with long thinking time, a lot of situations where you can`t think it through, go allways has both aspects... the right brain thing and the left brain thing! :-)
This reminds me of a book i once read "Zone Press Park" from O Meien ... he talks about finite and non-finite Go.

Here a quote from Senseis Library  

O Meien discusses the concepts he calls "infinite" vs. "finite" go. A position in go is "finite" if it's possible for the player to find the best move through reading. It's when the game is constrained and the possibilities are limited. It is clear he doesn't like this, and his technique of the "zone press" (a term borrowed from Japanese soccer) is designed to avoid it, and push the game into a state he calls "infinite," meaning a position where it is not clear to either player what the best move is, but there is nevertheless a pressure for his opponent to do something to reduce the dominance of his "number one zone", which is the area with the most potential on the board. 

Howsoever... i think i make good progress and the most important thing:
i enjoy playing again very much. And few weeks ago i realised something very very simple and very very important:
I have to be good at solving Life&Death problems  in order to become a stronger player one day! 
It is that simple and you can read about this in many books or on the internet ... and go teachers will point out as well ... but when i remeber a few months ago i really did not like to solve L&D ... i hate it because i was not good at it. But as soon as i fully accepted that in order to become a dan player one day ... i have to incrase my reading ability somehow ... i started to see solving L&D as a challenge to overcome myself and to learn how to fully concentrate.
There are only 3 possibilities:
1. Learn how to solve hard L&D and (maybe!)
become a dan player one day.
2. Don`t learn and stay a kgs 6 kyu.
3. Don`t learn and stop playing.

By the way i will not continue with posting every long game here... but some of them.

Much thinking time, big loss

Even while i like quotes about not taking too much care about winning or loosing, i`m a bit sad that i lost this game. I wrote some comments and variations in the game. Maybe you enjoy! Please leave your comments about the game, i`m curious if you have any advice how to develop my go!

As you know i was thinking about writing on this blog in german as well... i reconsidered this, because it just doesn't feel right ... i think the go comunity should unite internationally, and when writing in english the probability that people can understand all over the world is much higher. (Of course another question is how many people realy care about a study journal like blog of a kgs 6 kyu * :-D * )

But back to GO now:

I was a bit sad that around move 69 i truly lost my temper... before that i really took my time for each move, but suddenly i felt like the game was allready won and played very fast.
In the comments i think i have shown how white could have punished black and win the game later on... so i really won this game by luck.
The next eyecatcher game i will try to play with much more patience.

How to play a better game?

In order to to break through some obstacles: 

 1. From now on i will have 2 KGS accounts  ... one for "serious" games with high concentration and one for casual games.  Every game i play with "Eyecatcher" (KGS) will be  published here. I will
play those games totally serious and with all effort.

2.  Will do much much more tsumego as often as i can.  :-)

Loosing games - learning why

In the last time, i`m not very successful, i lost most of the games i played.
That might have to do something with the fact that i`m working on a documentary film right now, that keeps me busy most of the time. But anyway i think it is not wise to always look for a excuse for a lost game  –  i`m just not soo good at playing as i would like to be, my opening skills, intuition, life and death ... there is so much too learn.
What i do regular since a few weeks is solving tsumego... and i replay pro games and read some go books about the opening.
To loose a long, and kind of "serious", game,  just after some hours of study is the most frustrating thing ... you just started to think "oh yes, i really learned much, i just became stronger" ... and then ... after you loose, you realize how much there is left to learn.
Some people are managing it to become shodan with in 2 or 3 years,  in my case, i think it will take me several years from now on until i will get there... maybe i don`t have any talent for being a good go player, but that is not important, i love to play, and if i have to study more and harder, to become a dan player one day, i will do so.
And in fact becoming "shodan" is not the main goal, the main goal is to get a more profund understanding of the game that will help to enjoy the game even more.

Even if i can`t win much games at the moment, i feel like it is a very good thing, to analyze every played game, to find out why it was lost or won.

The WBaduk Challenge - Part. 4

Again i lost against a 16 Kyu at WBaduk (while i can win every now and then against a 5 Kyu at KGS).
First i was very frustrated about this, but then realized that even if go is a serious game, one should never forget to see things with humor.

My excuse is always: I was not taking my opponent serious enough and as a result i was playing too fast.

But this is not a excuse, if i`m not able to take my opponents serious, even if they are just "16 Kyu"   i have to be a 16 kyu as well until i learn some more about tactics and strategy.

And i wonder if i would have played much better if i took more time to think...

Whatever, i`m looking forward to my next WBaduk game.

W18: in relation with the white group at Q4 i don`t think this pincer is the best move now. Maybe high pincer , one or two space would have been better.
